Mom bought Az a walker and he\’s having a blast! Walking around, exploring new angles, trying to pull telephone cords, swiping his fingers on sofa backs and looking at the dust on his fingers(mom is in a frenzy, trying to keep things away from his reach now!)
He\’s enjoying being mobile, being able to move where he wants. Which makes me wonder how helpless babies must feel!Imagine not being able to walk, talk, or even eat on your own! I guess they can\’t miss what they haven\’t experienced yet.
Got to go now, before he pulls off something else from some other surface!
Saboor had school yesterday. So Anjum and I went to his school at 3.30, picked him up, and came straight to Forum where I had bought the 4 o clock show tickets. Sidra joined us there, and my mom gave me a half-hearted glare as she remonstrated that I was leaving Azhaan at home while I came off for a movie, that too with my older son still in school uniform! I told her that if he hadnt had a test, I would have made him bunk school itself! Anyways, we got inside and the movie started.
Anjum annoyingly kept track of all the elements of the book that were missing in the movie. I had to tell her to just enjoy the movie independently, but I got trapped in the check list too!
I agree that the entire novel couldnt be condensed into the movie, but there are certain elements that should be there and shouldnt be missed out, or changed. Obviously the screenplay writer has his own reasons.
The things that irked me most:
- How little Kreacher was used in the movie, as compared to the book, where he plays a pivotal role in getting Sirius to the Ministry.
- The interplay between Sirius and Snape was completely missing. Snape’s taunts, Sirius’ feelings of being stuck in 12, Grimmauld Place, his recklessness coming to the fore – all this was missing!
- The mirror that Sirius gives Harry. Not there in the movie.
- Why did they make Cho Chang the ’sneak’? Maybe this was to make Harry’s break up with her more obvious, whereas in the book, they just grew apart(i guess thats difficult to convey in the movie)
My grudges notwithstanding – there were some great moments in the film too.
- The scene where Harry goes flying across the Thames with the other Aurors! Awesome! How I wished I knew how to whistle!
- Grawp and his interaction with Hermione.
- I loved hating Umbridge.
- The final fights at the Ministry.
Despite all this, I would say that this movie was still one of the best among the five HP movies so far. Yet, why have any of the movie makers not capitalised on some of JK Rowlings best creations? Peeves for instance…and even SPEW, Hermione’s fervent cause for the house elves.
Yahoo has gone stark, raving, absolutely, no-holds barred crazy. Really.
This morning, I opened my email and saw to my surprise about 8 comment-alert messages in my inbox. I was surprised but I clicked on them anyway. They all led to comments made by my friends for blogs written about a month or so back. Comments which I’d already seen.
This has been going on the whole day. I’ve been getting comment alerts deposited in my inbox like crazy! Reminds me of that scene in that HP movie, the first movie, where Harry’s uncle is hit with letters from Hogwarts! An unending stream of letters!Yeah, almost the same thing!
I switched on the comp now, and once again my inbox shows about 5 comment alerts. By now, I’m truly fed up of being tricked by yahoo. Its not even faintly funny. You’d think Yahoo is some little brat with a stubborn sense of humour that makes it want to repeat the same silly joke again and again.
I wanted to insert a new blast about this and its not even letting me do that??!!
On Friday night, I was once again sleeping alone in my room. Alone meaning, along with Az and Sab, as Mansoor had left for Bombay. Around 12, I thought I\’ll read one more chapter of Eldest(Sequel to Eragon) as it was such an absorbing book, and then I thought I\’d go to sleep.
Just then, from the corner of my eyes, I spotted something on the floor, running swiftly behind the bed. I realised it was a rat, but part of me thought that since I\’m SUCH a bad housekeeper, it could also be a huge dust ball(One that runs so fast? Dont they just drift?)
Anyways, I picked up my fone and smsd Shazu, who was downstairs. She reassured me that the rat wont do anything, and it surely wont climb anywhere. Just go to sleep she said, and then, I looked up from my phone to see the rat climbing up the slope of the AC wire, and then, pausing, and then running back down again!
MUMMY! I grabbed the phone and messaged Shazu to come and take Az downstairs and that I would bring Sab. There was no way I was going to sleep in the room with such an acrobatic rat! A woke a sleepy Sab and the three of us camped in Shazu\’s bed. Shazu and I came upstairs to pick up Sabs blanket, when he ran across the room under the bed again. And once again he showed off his skills by running up and down!We hurried back downstairs.
The next day I had to go to my moms place, and I hoped and prayed that the rat would have gone. I came back here yesterday and I think its gone! But I cant be sure. All this nonsense in the movie and cartoon world about how cute rats are…..aaargh! they\’re SO sick! But I guess I\’m gonna watch Ratatouille when it does hit the screens!
I’d been to Vaniyambadi yesterday for an engagement. We went there in the morning, took a detour to Ambur where my mother’s aunt lives. We stayed there for a while, took a look at the new baby there(mom’s aunt’s grandson-technically my cousin..sheesh! – mom’s aunt is just a few years older than her – SO)
Anyways, we went to Vaniyambadi from there, where Saboor disappeared with the men, and Az was being very cranky. He hadn’t been able to complete his nap, and boy! Lemme tell you, that theres nothing more bothersome than a baby who hasn’t finished his nap. No amount of coddling, and soothing will fix him. No amount of rocking and feeding and waving rattles in his face will pacify him. Az went to sleep about ten minutes before we had to leave for Bangalore! Meaning, he kept up his crankiness for nearly four hours! An exhausting and mind-numbing four hours mind you!
And in this melee, if I haven’t seen what the bride is wearing, or what jewellery the boy’s family took, or how the whole thing was organized, would you really blame me? MIL looked incredulous that I hadn’t bothered to notice all that. Well, even if Az wasn’t cranky, I doubt I would have noticed anything other than the bride’s outfit maybe!
Made \’em yesterday. Didnt like the taste that much although it was a hit with Shazu, Anjum and even Rayaan! Chalo, someone liked it atleast! And the best part is, nothing is left over. The only clue to whether something is good or not in my home is the speed with which it gets over! Its the ultimate compliment when something I make gets over in about ten minutes!
Sometimes we\’re so dulled by life. I mean, life kind of takes the edge away. Leaving us dull. That\’s how I feel at times. The solemn plodding of life, each day like the other, with nothing to really look forward to break the monotony.
I think thats why I love vacations. From the time I was small, I would look forward to vacations with longing. Not just sitting-around-at-home-and-doing-nothing kind of vacations. But the ones where Abbu took us out of Bangalore. Whether it was Jaipur, or Agra or Kashmir, or whether it was Hong Kong, Bangkok or Japan, the thrill of waiting for those vacations is something that I haven\’t forgotten.
Today, when I do go on a vacation, half my time is spent in organizing everything, making sure I haven\’t forgotten to pack extra clothes for the kids, or making sure I have some sort of snack on hand in my handbag. Remembering to fold all the dirty clothes separately, and reminding Mansoor that we still have some shopping left to do! For the kind of vacation that really enthralled me, I\’d have to become small again! where ammi used to take care of everything and where I would just wait each day for the lovely and novel experiences it would bring us!
And since that isn\’t going to happen, I\’d be glad to have any kind of vacation now. Anything that will bring a spark to the boring tedium of life!
These are the few times when I dont have work piling on my desk, and I simply dont know what to do. I mean, I work from home. I can’t be expected to sit in front of the comp, twiddling my thumbs when there’s no office work, but loads of housework sitting right behind me, staring at me accusingly.
On the other hand, to justify my time sheet, I do spend enough time in front of the computer, reading up on relevant material, etc. But, who, is THAT big an enthusiast of work?
Still, I’d rather have loads of work piled on me, in stead of NO work. Theres nothing more frustrating and irritating than that for sure!
I\’ve known Lubna from just a few months, and it feels like I\’ve known her for ages! She\’s down here in Bangalore and we met up first at Forum(where this pic was taken). An internet pal is an oxymoron I think. You know so much about each other(courtesy blogs, chat, orkut) and still you\’re strangers! But I just love it!
Zee, I do wish you\’d been able to make it up that Sunday, or the Saturday that went by when I had called Lubi and her daughter for lunch at moms place. Saboor for a change actually came up and spoke to Lubi and Naz although a bit late in the day.
I was telling Lubi that I usually don\’t encourage internet friendships. I quietly delete the friend requests I get, but for some reason, I added on Lubi, and I don\’t regret it even one bit!
His beautiful beautiful hair. Gone within two minutes! There was a lot of screaming, and yelling as the barber worked on his head. Wriggling and squirming..and finally it was done! I wish we didnt have to do it. But everyone was after me, saying that we have to remove his hair atleast twice. I do hope that his hair will be soft and silky like it was the last time!
