Afsha\’s twin sister Atifa looked rather upset to me after Afsha got married and went to Vellore. I couldn\’t begin to imagine how lonely she must be feeling. After all, the bond between twins is something very special, and its something we cannot really fathom I suppose.

Still, she put on a brave face when we went to chacha\’s house and she showed me her cat who was curled up happily in a shopping bag!

Pets can be such stress busters sometimes. They don\’t ask much from you. They don\’t want you to sit and talk to them. But just having them around, watching them feel content with you is enough to make you feel better.

I so miss Sheru and Timmy. I know we can never have another Sheru or Timmy again. There never could be another cat or dog like them…but there are times when I wish we had a cat at least. It would make such a difference in our life, and I feel that the Saboor and Azhaan\’s childhood will be so much different too. Maybe sometime in the future I can twist Mansoor\’s arm for this…

Ever heard of the kid who was on a diet from the time he was born? No? Well, now you have. Thats my son, Azhaan.

Till the time he was on cerelac and nestum, I faced some minor problems, but I managed to get some food inside him atleast. When I switched to home-cooked food, he just opens his mouth a wee bit so i can push in a tiny, tiny morsel inside his mouth, which he spits out promptly.

Sometimes he likes to eat what Saboor is eating. But thats only because he wants it because Saboor is eating it. The moment he takes in a small morsel, he spits it out and I have to clean up after him.

I discovered that he likes pasta and noodles. No hi-fi Italian or Chinese cuisine although. Give him the ordinary Savorit pasta cooked with the usual masala and he’ll eat a few spoonfuls before spitting out everything. Or give him Top Ramen noodles or Maggi and he’ll eat that until he’s bored. But what he loves doing is, mostly being on a diet.

To make sure he drinks his milk, I have to first hand him something(toy, chewable, remote control) that will distract him sufficiently. Meanwhile I also have to play Soni ke nakhre(from Partner), so he’ll shake his head in rhythm and wave his fists and drink up his milk, without realizing that he’s done it.

Why did I get the fussy kid? Why me? I look at Rayaan who happily munches whatever we give him and I look at Azhaan who looks back at me with a grin. Don’t even think of forcing me to eat, that grin says. I’ll promptly throw up everything!

Taken on Saboor\’s sports day….yes, the day I missed his drill event…

So many weddings this year….and almost every time we sat down and applied mehendi to our palms. Mehendi walis painstakingly bent over our palms, young girls waiting for their turn with the mehendi cone…used cones, wads of cotton wool lying around, bowls of sticky sugar-lemon water…The worse thing about mehendi would be the dried mehendi that crumbles and falls off every where in the house, on the bed, on our pillows, under our feet…a little like rat droppings…yuck…

But I love the smell of mehendi! Its so exotic…musky also. Its an acquired liking because quite a few people don\’t like it.

Aah..the smell of mehendi, the crushed jasmine fragrance in the air, its all so evocative…reminds me of my wedding day!

Tomorrow is Afsha\’s wedding. Wishing her ALL the happiness in this world!

So much has been happening around here, but I havent really got down to thinking about it or blogging about it. Here’s a brief update on what’s been keeping me busy!

  1. Shazu got married and moved to Mumbai
  2. Shazu misses us a lot and is having separation pangs and we call her everyday to make her feel better
  3. Saboor had his sports day where he was taking part in a display. All the kids were dressed up as Indian cricketers. On sports day, I sent him off early and by the time I got Az ready and we located the ground where the sports was being held, his display had got over!!!! Whoever hears of display on Sports day being done right in the morning!!!??? Poor baby! We didn’t see him perform! :( (
  4. Azzu started walking!!! Yes! He had taken a tentative few steps on Shazu’s chor haldi day, but after that he wasn’t interested. But from the past four or five days, he’s really got into it. Now all he does is walk all day!!:-))
  5. My middle is getting published in Deccan Herald! Yippee!! :-) I’ve ALWAYS received rejection slips for my middles, right from the time I was in college and I used to send them off to the DH office. But this time, they’ve selected it! I’m thrilled!
  6. Mansoor and Parvez have left for Mumbai to see Shazu. They’ll be back by the end of this week.
  7. I still haven’t seen OSO!! I can’t believe the fuss the world is making about SRK’s abs ya! Its too much! I just want to see the film cos i heard its a good entertainer!

Thats it for now….I got to get back to work before Az wakes up! Catch u ppl later!

Say Mashallah!!! :-)

Picture taken on Shazu\’s chor haldi. Both Az and Ray were dressed as the Dholi-taaro Gujju\’s from Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam. However, Az looked like a Kashmiri boy and Ray looked like a little Nepali to me! National integration or what??!! :-) And of course, Sab was his usual elegant self until the arrival of the other boys..(this pic was taken before they came), and after that, I saw only a sweaty red-faced boy running around everywhere screaming and shouting with the other boys in sight.

Yes! I had no idea which movie this song appeared in. I still don’t know the name, but Azeem played this song so many times on our last trip to Vellore, that I really liked it and borrowed the CD from him. From then onwards, I’ve played it about a million times on my music player. And then to my surprise I realised that Azhaan simply goes off to sleep when he hears this song! And I cant tell you what a relief it is to have him sleep so easily!!( Of course, now that i’ve divulged this secret to the whole wide world, from tomorrow he’s not going to sleep to this song.)

I did a random search for this song on youtube and am I surprised to have found it! But after listening to the song for such a long time, I am SO disappointed to see the video! Its so uninspired and typically Hindi film like! Its got Abbas and an actress called Shama Skiander who i’ve seen in some Hindi TV shows. And its that running around the trees kind of song that so typified Hindi film music of the late eighties and early nineties. I dont know what I was expecting, but it was surely not this! This song is definitely better as Azhaan’s lullaby!

Isn’t it beautiful?! Its also Azhaan’s favourite!! He simply curls up and goes to sleep when he hears this!!
